Am i on the right road? (to a UC school)?

Right now im a junior and i plan to go to either UCI(University of California) or UCSD(San Deigo).

The past years as a freshman and a sophomore, ive been getting a 3.2x gpa. no higher, no lower. my 1st semester just finished and i think i got a 3.2 again... gahh!! here are the classes im currently taken, and my grade i got last semester.

english A

trigonometry B-

Multimedia Design (art req. for UCs) A

AP Chemistry C

US History B

PC Repair A

I want to drop AP Chemistry. why? Last semester felt scary becaue i had an F for like the first 3 months of the semester. and it was pretty hard getting it back up to a C. If the UCs see that i drop the class, will it look bad? what should i do?

do you guys think im on track even with a 3.2 gpa? I plan on taking 2 more computer classes on my senior year since i pretty much know alot of it in and out, and i plan to major in a computer field. Im pretty sure i will do well in the computer classes next year. I aced my PC Repair Final :D.

thx

With a 3.2 GPA, I'd say you'll be fine if aiming for UC Irvine, Davis, Santa Barbara or Santa Cruz. UC Berekely, LA or San Diego is probably too much of a reach, but of course you never know--the admissions process can be a bit arbitrary and random. Your SAT scores,

essays, recommendations, and extra-curriculars will also affect your chances, so again, who knows? As far as I can tell, you're on track.

As for AP Chem, only drop if you're seriously afraid of failing (as in D-/F grade.) A C is not only passing, it will count as a B to the UC system because it is AP. Dropping a class is a big no-no, as it shows a lack of committment and perseverance. If I were you, I would keep the class and ask my teacher for extra help or go to tutoring centers. The web is also a great resource. Just google whatever you're studying and a ton of links to help you understand college-level chemistry will turn up, including stuff found on college websites (like UC Berekely's.)
