Acronis program restoring stuff question?

ok i need to backup my vista home premium whole pc cause i want everything to be the same. so if i backup my computer using acronis how do i restore it back on? cause im sending my laptop back for repair and when its back all is gone so im just wondering how would i restore the backup?

and im putting the backup on an external hard drive

Ok, Acronis is a very easy and powerful porgram, I've been using it for years and it never gave me any headache.

To Backup

Open the program and choose Back-up (of course :)). Just follow the prompt and navigate to the destination where you wan to back-up (this case, your external hard drive). Name the back-up as you want. Acronis will ask you if you want a Full, differential or incremental back-up. Choose Full and the n just click next until it starts to back-up.

Restoring

After the back-up is finish you will see the image file created by Acronis. It's a single file and it's in gigabyte size. If Acronis is installed in your system, you can actually open this file by clicking on it. It swill show you alll your back-up files.

Anyways, to restore open Acronis and go to Recovery. Navigate to your external hard drive where the Acronis image file is stored. Choose the file and press next. A window will open. Check the one you want to restore. You don't have to check the MBR option. Checking the image file option is enough. Just press next and choose what drive/partition you want to place the recovered image. Another window will open, make sure that's you chose active partition. If you only have one operating system anyway, the default will always be Active so you don't have to worry about it. Your data drive should be Logical. If you're booting into another OS, choose Primary. After making sure that it's Active then just press next until the recovery starts.

If you do all this process with Acronis installed (meaning inside windows, Acronis will ask you to restart after confirming that you want the image recovered). Since you mention that you're going to have youre lap repaired then you will be then restoring the recovery image outside windows. Just boot using the Acronis CD and the process is still the same. If you don't have a boot CD, try creating one. With Acronis installed, go to tools and choose create bootable media. Insert a CD and Acronis will burn it for you. Umm..I assume you have Acronis 10 or 11, right?
