Wipe out my laptop, or buy new hard drive??

What's a better way to start from scratch on an old used laptop? Should I pay a repair tech. to wipe out my system or should I buy a new hard drive? We suspect the drive is going bad. I just want a completely empty computer so that I can install brand new windows and virus protection. It's a Latitude CPi.

If you even suspect that the hard drive is failing, replace it. It's not that expensive. I just recently replaced a failing hard drive in a Dell laptop for less than $100. Just make certain you have all the software installation disks before you start. Backup the data files you want to save from the old drive to an external source such as CD ROM, DVD, Flash drive, etc.

I would do a fresh install of Windows and all of your software instead co copying the old drive to the new one. This way, you won't copy any of the problems from your old drive. Then you can restore your data files after you installed all of the programs.

get a new one and a 7200rpm one and itl be alot faster anyway ....
New hard disk
i suggest you get a new drive and then you know it will work well.
If you have a copy of Windows to install on it, when you install the OS, you have the option to completely format the drive. Don't pay anyone to do that for you!

If you simply want a bigger hard drive (laptop drives are more expensive than desktop drives because they are smaller), then go ahead and buy one and install Windows on that.
