My mom has an old computer and I'm trying to help her with getting it set up. But, I'm getting an error message along the lines of windows can't start because fastfat.sys is corrupt or missing. It recommends I use the original disk and type "r" at the start-up screen to repair. But... I can't even get to the start-up screen; it doesn't matter whether I have the disk in it or not. It just sits there, taunting me, with that message. How can repair if I can't even get it started? I've tried F2 and F8 without success. This all started when some Office Depot idiot told me that the USB hub he sold me would "dumb itself down" when I installed it on an older model computer. Can anyone help?
Windows start up problem. fastfat.sys error.?free spyware remover
#1 Usually this means a file is either missing or corrupt from the operating system. You cannot repair it inside windows anyways, so dont try to boot to windows :P.
#2 Depending on the operating system you are using, Windows 95,98,2000,ME, XP the fix for this type of issue varies.
Usually what you do is you start up the pc, you boot to the BIOS by hitting either the F2 key or DEL key or sometimes F10 or F11, usually del or f2.
Once in the bios you want to find the part that allows you to change the priority of boot devices.
