Windows XP Trouble - Sasser Worm and HouseCall. Bad mix.?

Egh. My older Sony Vaio computer, enabled with Windows XP, is being an idiot. I began with what I'm 99% sure was the Sasser Worm, because of the identical error messages I was getting to the symptoms exhibited by others. I ran TrendMicro's Housecall Application before I went to bed, when I woke up my computer was on the bottup screen where it says "Windows XP," and it shows the loading bar. I've been running it in Directory Services Repair mode, as that's the only way my computer'll work. Many applications still won't work, like WMP and Windows Live Messenger. I have, now, a slew of registry repairers and anti-spys, but my computer still reserves the right to act lethargic. Ha... Anyone know what's going on? ( I have a sneaking suspicion that this is all because of that Sasser Worm, but I'm no computer expert. I downloaded most all of the patches available for the worm, and it remains undetected.) THANK YOU!

I'm not sure which patches and things you have downloaded but it sounds like it didnt fix all the problem. I am sure this is frustrating.

I did find this information on Microsoft. It is a removal tool specifically for the Sasser worm. Make sure to read all the instructions before using this tool as it does have descriptions of symptoms and etc... http://support.microsoft.com/kb/841720
