Repairing windows.?

My Fujitsu Siemans Amilo laptop will not boot up, i have inserted the recovery disc that came with the laptop and followed the steps to repair windows, but i get to a point where i get a black screen with the message

"Microsoft windows XP(TM) recovery console."

"The recovery console provides system repair and recovery functionality."

"Type EXIT to quit the recovery console and restart the computer".

"which windows installation would you like to log onto"

Wher do i go from here i think it's looking for me to enter a command in but i dont know what, any ideas.

Also when i try to boot up the laptop normally or in safe mode i get the error message "Services.exe unable to locate component. This application has failed to start because SCESRV.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this."

I dont want to re-install windows as i have some files not backed up.

It's asking you which install of windows you want to repair.

type 1 (As you want to repair 1: C:\WINDOWS)

By the looks of it you're missing some vital system files. So either a repair or system restore is needed
