Explorer.exe will not work; what should I do?

Since about two days agao, my computer will not load properly after I get to the login screen. Once I press a name, a desktop wall paper shows, but no shortcuts/icons and the taskbar will not appear. Ctrl+Alt+Del still works, and I have been able to run programs through there, but when I type in "explorer.exe" it appears for one second and then dissappears. I have done numerous virus/spyware checks and I haven't been successful so far. I even tried a registry cleaner but that didn't seem to work. In addition, safe mode will not load properly. When I try it, the computer will automatically reboot itself. I've also tried systrem recovery, but that will not work either. I'm trying to avoid to go ask someone to fix it for me because I"m not exactly wealthy with college in the way. I'm also trying to avoid a repair installation. Please help me with my problem. It seems like your explorer.exe is corrupt. I had something like your situation but luckily by explorer.exe wasn't corrupt. What i could was:

1. Press Ctrl + Alt + Del

2. Go to Processes tab

3. Try and Find explorer.exe on the Process List

4. If you cannot find it i cannot help but if it is there highlight it and End Process

5. A screen will pop up asking you to confirm action, Press Ok

6. Go to Applications Tab

7. New Task....

8. If i remember correctly you have to type: C:\WINDOWS\explorer.exe

Note: Replace C with your main (boot) drive

9. Press Ok
